not that it excuses anything. Automatics can catch fire from towing with the drive wheels on the ground. If it has to be done that way, disconnect the driveshaft. 5spds are more tolerant to this as there is no cooler nor pump that is independent. Disconnecting the ds would be safest though. Additionally, if the towing with the front wheels on the ground, you'll have to find a way to lock the steering column straight. It normally locks off center. And naturally, remove the front bumper and anything else that's low to the ground that could drag (intercoolers, splash shields, etc)
